Hawaiian Kalbi Flanken Ribs
Darlene
I didn’t know what “Flanken Ribs” were when I first made this recipe, but they had them at my local grocery store. The ribs are so flavorful! The marinade is what makes them so tasty. The meat also has a deep, meaty flavor. The combination is awesome!

- 8 oz. Flanken cut beef ribs (See Note)
- 3 Tbsp Reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Mirin , rice cooking wine
- 1 Tbsp Green onion, sliced
- 1 Tbsp Brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp Ginger paste
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
- 1/4 tsp Sriracha sauce , optional
- 1/32 tsp Black pepper
Place all the ingredients, except the sesame seeds and ribs, into a 1-quart resealable plastic bag. Mix and then add the ribs. Marinate for 60 minutes in the refrigerator
Heat grill to Medium-high, about 400 degrees℉. Drain ribs, and place on hot grill.
Flip after 2 minutes, again at 2 minutes. You want to cook ribs at high heat and quickly. Fat on ribs may cause flare-ups.
Remove from the grill and garnish with sesame seeds.
If you can’t find the flanken cut ribs, you can use Carne Asada (thinly sliced chuck steak).
We like to serve this with our Luau Cauliflower Rice.
