Pear and Onion Tarts Recipe for Two

These may look small, but they are big on flavor. The puff pastry is the perfect vehicle for the cheese, pear, and onion flavors. They are wonderful right out of the oven or at room temperature.

Ingredients
- 1/4 Package Frozen puff pastry sheets , thawed (See Notes)
- 1 Large Egg , beaten
- 2 Tbsp Pear , peeled and cut into small cubes
- 1 Tbsp Shallot or onion, minced
- 1 Tbsp Goat cheese
- 1 Tbsp Cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 Tbsp Chives, sliced small
- 1 tsp Butter
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1/8 tsp + 1/16 tsp Salt
- 1/32 tsp Smoked paprika
- 1/64 tsp Granulated garlic
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400℉. Prepare a small rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut four 3 x 3-inch squares from the thawed puff pastry dough sheet with a sharp knife. Carefully place them on the baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between each one.
- Cream together the goat cheese, cream cheese, garlic, and paprika. Set aside.
- In a small microwave-safe bowl, add 1/2 Tbsp water and the shallots/onions. Microwave for 1 minute. Remove carefully and place in a small frying pan.
- Add the butter, pears, salt, and sugar to the onions. Heat over medium heat for about a minute. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Brush the puff pastry with the beaten egg to cover the top of each tart.
- In the middle of each tart, place 1/2 Tbsp of the goat cheese mixture. Make an indentation in the cheese. Equally divide the pear mixture between the tarts, placing it on top of the cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and top with minced chives. Can be served warm or at room temperature.
Notes
When thawing the Puff Pastry sheet, cover it with a damp paper towel to keep it from drying out.
