Equipment
- Medium frying pan
- Small frying pan with lid
- Knives
Ingredients
- 8 oz. 80% Lean ground beef
- 1 Medium Onion , cut into 1/2 inch slices
- 1/4 Cup Water , more as needed
- 2 Slices Swiss cheese
- 2 Onion burger buns
- 3 Tbsp Onion soup seasoning mix
- 1/2 Tbsp Neutral oil
- 1 tsp Brandy , or sherry
- 1/16 tsp Dried thyme
Instructions
- Mix the onion soup mix with the Ground beef. Form two 4-ounce patties. Set aside.
- Place oil in a small frying pan and heat on medium heat. Add the onions, breaking them apart into rings, along with the thyme and 1/4 cup of water. Cover with a lid and cook for about 5 minutes. Make sure onions are not sticking to the pan, and add more water if needed.
- Remove the lid and continue to cook onions until golden brown, about another 5 minutes. All the water should have evaporated. Check to make sure they are not sticking or getting too brown. Add the Brandy or Sherry to the pan and remove from the heat.
- Cook hamburgers in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Flip after 3 minutes and place half of the cooked onions on each patty. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each burger. Reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Place on toasted onion buns and serve hot.
