Asian Inspired Asparagus Recipe for Two

We both love fresh asparagus, pickled or canned, not so much. The sauce brings this dish to the next level. You can serve hot or at room temperature. We enjoy it both ways. This sauce could be used with fresh green beans as well.

We both love fresh asparagus, pickled or canned, not so much. The sauce brings this dish to the next level. You can serve hot or at room temperature. We enjoy it both ways. This sauce could be used with fresh green beans as well.
Equipment
- Knives
- Small bowl
- Small frying pan
- Paper towels
Ingredients
- 8 oz. Asparagus, ends trimmed (See Notes)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Honey
- 1 tsp Minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp Garlic chili sauce
- 1/2 tsp Sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp Ginger paste
- 1/4 tsp Sesame seeds, for garnish
- 1/16 tsp + 1/32 tsp Cornstarch
Instructions
- Using a double layer of paper towels, wet it completely and then wring it out to where it is still moist.
- Place the asparagus side by side in a single layer on the paper towel. Roll the towel up and place it in the microwave.
- Cook on high for 3 to 6 minutes, until it is crisp-tender. Be careful when removing it, it is hot. (See Notes)
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Whisk together the other ingredients, except for sesame seeds. Add to a small skillet and heat on medium heat for 3 minutes. Stir with a whisk often.
- Whisk the soy sauce and cornstarch mixture into the skillet. Whisk until thickened. Add the steamed asparagus and gently toss to coat.
- Transfer to your serving dish and add the remaining sauce from the pan, if desired. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Notes
You can steam your asparagus on the stove-top using a steamer pot.
